How to Create a Mobile App Wireframe

Mobile app wireframes are high level visual concepts for a specific app screen. They show general layout for navigation, text, buttons, images, and other important design elements for the app.

But what do digital wireframes get us? They allow us to resolve diagramming and usability problems when they‘re more flexible and reversible.

What Is a Mobile App Wireframe?

A wireframe is a simple mock-up of a mobile app screen.

Most often it emphasizes structure over visual style. It may contain boxes to show images, placeholders for simple textual labels, buttons, menus, and regions of page content.

A wireframe helps answer questions such as:

  • Which is the first?
  • What about the main story?
  • How do I transition between screens?
  • What is the most important information?
  • Is it bit overwhelming?

Start With the User Goal

Know the purpose of the screen prior to designing a tool.

For example, a product page might need to help a user:

  1. Know the Product.
  2. Take a look at the price.
  3. Match Statement and Answer Key Read for details.
  4. Add this item and put it in the shopping cart.

That should drive the wireframe.

Don‘t add features just because other comparable applications have them.

List the Required Screens

– Make a simple list of screens prior to sketching each layout.

A shopping app might need:

  • Home
  • Search
  • Categories
  • Product details
  • Cart
  • Checkout
  • Order confirmation

A very small app may require as few as a handful of screens.

Writing the list in advance: prevents you from designing isolated screens without understanding the complete experience.

Sketch the User Flow

Then plug in the screens.

For example:

You are here: Home Search Results Product You are here: Home Search Results Product Cart Checkout

This is the starting point for your wireframes.

Ensure the flow reads well before you invest time doing typographical refinements.

Create the First Wireframe

Begin with coarse blocks.

Use simple icons for your images (such as using rectangles for pictures), use lines for your text, simple icons for your buttons and basic text labels for your navigation.

Focus on:

Layout

Determinarea locului unde sunt pozitive domeniile principale de materiale.

Hierarchy

Critical information should be given more prominence or screen real estate.

Navigation

Ensure it is transparent to the user how he/she can go back, forward, or to another sig section.

Actions

Main actions ought to be easily accessible.

Choose the Right Level of Detail

Levels of wire frame:

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

Super simple and quick to assemble.

Are helpful in when you are just playing with a number of layout options.

Mid-Fidelity Wireframes

They include much richer content, spacing, navigation, and component structure.

Useful where the avenues in the design direction are becoming more obvious.

High-Fidelity Screens

They are more like the finished appearance but for the visual design and elements of the UI.

Low or mid fidelity wireframes are generally easier to make changes to, when early planning.

Use a Design Tool

Design tools like Figma or any wireframing tools, you can use any of those tools.

Figma‘s existing product offers design and prototyping within the same environment, whereas users can utilize its mobile application to review designs and test prototypes directly on the device.

The exact tool matters less than having a clear structure and a repeatable workflow.

Test the Wireframe

Take your wireframe to another person and get them to do an easy task.

For example:

“Pick an item, then toss it in the shopping cart.”

Don‘t make me explain every step. Observe if they can naturally achieve the goal naturally.

Allows you to see issues like lack of clarity in navigation, the absence of information, or actions being out of place.

Common Wireframing Mistakes

One mistake is going into too much visual detail too soon.

Another is designing separate screens instead of conceptualizing the whole flow.

10. Avoid the temptation to use wireframes to do all the designing It’s a pleasure to code a design that takes the time to do the design work to extremes.

Simple Wireframe Example

Let‘s say one shows a dive trip list.

A simple structure might be:

Header
Profile | Notifications

Main section
Today‘s activity summary

Primary action
Start Workout

Secondary section
Recent workouts

Bottom navigation
Home | Plans | Progress | Profile

The wireframe is about hierarchy and placement, not colour or visual effects.

Final Thoughts

A great mobile app wireframe lays out a clear foundation for the complete design process.

2. Work through the user goal first, establish the necessary screens, outline the user flow, sketch out bare-bones screens, and test them before getting into detailed UI design.

Wireframing is not about producing a finished looking screen. It is about discovering if the structure is functional.
