How to Make Fake Skin

Fake Skin

Fake Skin’ is applied over your Natural Skin to Smooth Wrinkles.

It begins like any other anti-aging treatment: rub some goo on your face and wait for it to dry. It, however, is not a skin cream or wrinkle serum; instead, it is an unseen polymer “second skin” that dries to tighten wrinkles and decrease skin sagging.

“You place it on as an ointment, and it becomes a cover,” said Robert Langer, a professor at MIT and the founder of Olivo Laboratories, the company developing the fake skin. The technology was described in detail by researchers in a new paper.

Skin Transforms

Skin Transforms

The skin transforms into a temporary cosmetic intervention when used as a daily mask. In the future, its creators hope the affected skin can remain loaded with medications absorbed through a person’s natural skin.

Two gels stay applied to the skin. The first is clear, while the second is cloudy. As the gels dry, they toughen into a flexible film that adheres to your natural skin like the clear part of a temporary tattoo does. After a few hours, it’s difficult to tell the difference between the two — the silicon-based material is specially designed with a matte finish to avoid drawing attention to itself. It contrasts traditional patches, which can be transparent but remain seen.

The Shape of the Natural Skin

As the gels dry to form the fake skin, they pull on and change the shape of the natural skin, and with proper application, they may conceal wrinkles or other aging skin properties. For example, the authors demonstrated that artificial skin effectively removes bags and smoothes wrinkles under the eyes in their paper.

“No one dies from under-eye bags,” acknowledged Dr. Barbara Gilchrest, a dermatologist at Harvard Medical School and the paper’s author. They do, however, have social consequences for people. “It makes them appear old.” They gives them a tired appearance. It gives them a sad impression. It’s considered very unattractive in our society and a sign of aging.”

Langer claims that artificial skin has many advantages over current market products for medical use. For example, depending on the desired effect, you can alter the properties of the film, such as its thickness, breathability, or elasticity. You can also apply it to as large or as small an area as you like. People who wear medicinal patches, such as NicoDerm, remain currently limited by commercially available sizes.

The Treatment

For some conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis, the treatment area may span much of the body. In this case, an easily applied, drug-laden artificial skin could be a much better treatment option than the current approach, which involves slathering on cream and wrapping the body in a plastic wrap, according to Gilchrest.

The fake skin has already remained tested on a few hundred people in human trials. The company is developing the skin as a platform, after which they may decide to customize it by injecting drugs into it.

According to Amir Nashat, acting CEO of Olivo and managing partner at venture capital firm Polaris Partners, the company focuses most of its efforts on the medical application of the second skin. The paper speculated that in the future, these could include “durable ultraviolet protection” or using the skin to conceal disfiguring birthmarks.

The Primary Focus of the Research

However, for the time being, the primary focus of the research they’ve published is cosmetic. It’s part of a $60 billion cosmetics industry that plays on an age-old human desire to look good because of their youth

But, according to Cara Kiernan Fallon, a history of science Ph.D. candidate at Harvard who studies attitudes toward aging, focusing on making us look younger does not adequately address the underlying discomfort we have with being old.

The proportion of Americans over 65 is at an all-time high.” But this has not resulted in the widespread acceptance of physical changes. Then instead a massive market for all kinds of procedures and products to remain young,” according to the study.

Conclusion

What is artificial skin tattoo? Realistic limb-like synthetic skin that is tattooable. Our goal is to produce an experience that is as near to tattooing actual skin as possible.
